For Jatoo: Doxil® and Eloxatin®

Did your wife ever get on the Doxil® and Eloxatin® chemo?  If so how is it going for her?  Mom has one more Doxil before the oncologist clears her to add Eloxatin (she wants to be sure doxil is safe for her).

Yes, I looked it up on the ASCO website after Jatoo mentioned it.  Here is the link:

Did the results of the 5FU/Eloxatin regimen that was presented include OVCA patients?

I do not post often, but I have been reading this site religiously for the last two years since my mother was diagnosed IIIC. I really appreciate the support provided by those on this site, and both of you are both devoted caregivers and great sources of information and hope. My mother took two months off chemo after 8 rounds of Doxil/Carbo due to low blood counts and will be starting Carbo/Gemzar tomorrow. This will be her 23rd round of chemo. Yikes.

Alan: Doxil/Oxaliplatin would have been great if my wife has not been on Doxil before where she developed resistance later. 5FU and Oxaliplatin will be new drugs that her cancers have never seen. So anything new for the cancer sounds good, like the first time she was on Doxil, then Avastin and Gemzar.

Diane: I think it also depends on how you feel. Well Monday is too close, then you can check again your CA 125.

Thanks!  Is the 5FU and Eloxatin better (from what you heard) than the Doxil and Eloxatin?  I remember the response rate was high, but there were more platinum sensitive patients than refractory in the study.

I hope this one works for your wife!

Thanks to both of you, she is actually scheduled for a blood transfusion tomorrow...her hemoglobin is very low and she's weak.  Too bad the aranesp didn't work quickly enough.

Dear Jatoo,

For the few women I have known that did Avastin the CA 125 dropped and dropped fast.  I just want to make sure what happen to me in the spring doesn't happen again.  When the cancer started growing out of control and took all my stored protein from my body.  Because my body still hasn't recovered.  But thank you very much because I am schedule to do the Avastin again on Monday and wasn't sure I wanted to stay on it.  As ususal I was hoping for better results but fast.  Thanks again.

Take care, Diane

Dear Diane;

Hello! For many women that I have observed, Avastin increases the CA 125. So for us, one cycle is not enough. The scan is the more important. Your GynOnc is correct to wait three cycles.

Thanks,
Jatoo

Hello I have a question for you.  I did one cycle of Avastin and have been on oral Cytoxan for two weeks.  They did my CA 125 on Monday and it went up 84 points from 104 to 188.  So in my book that is almost double which means this is not working.  But my Oncology/GYN said he would want me on this for about three months.  I haven't talked to my Oncology yet.  But my Onc/GYN is the Ovarian Cancer specailist and has his PHD he is also known National Wide but I am not so sure this is the way I want to go.  So I guess I am looking for some advise on whether to stay on this treatment or try something new.

Diane

PS Jatoo I hope Melody does well on her new regimen
Alan I hope you Mother feels better soon.

Dear Alan:

She is scheduled to get 5FU (Folfox) and Oxaliplatin (Eloxatin) instead of Doxil/Eloxatin. This regimen was presented at the 2007 ASCO Annual meeting with good results (58% positive response rate) including complete remissions for recurrent, resistant or refractory heavily pretreated patients. It says it is well tolerated (manageable toxicity) and efficient treatment.

She had only one cycle of Doxil/Avastin and it looks like it was not working, the reason for the change. I pray that your mom feels better soon.

Thanks for asking.
